Re: The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane
I hate this film. But, just because I don't dig animal cruelty (even simulated) and the Jodi Foster naked thing.

Re: Silent Night, Deadly Night
A rewatch has helped me to appreciate it more, but I think Part 2 is vastly superior. As in: it's an uncherished, unrecognized gem. Undiscovered genius. Brilliant. Etc.
Christmas Evil is okay. It's well-made but I remember being disappointed when I first saw it that it wasn't weirder.

I only hope that it's so successful, they rush the sequel.

Re: Jackie Brown
I haven't seen Reservoir Dogs yet, but I'm a very big fan of his mid-90's work. I suppose I agree that Pulp Fiction is Tarantino's best film but Jackie Brown has his best characters. And Pam Grier gives probably his best directed performance. And Jackie Brown is easily one of all-time favorite films...

Re: Beautiful films?
I think you misunderstand me, I'm not looking for anything deep in the story. God no. I just want something more than a cookie cut story, and that's all Argento's movies have to offer. Which makes it doubly frustrating because his films are so beautiful. I am being fair, I'm being very fair. I'm no...

Re: Beautiful films?
I stand by that he was right place right time. He might have been the best of the giallo bunch, but his dialog and stories are rather weak. I recognize why people love him, of course. There's a reason why I own many of his films. But closer unbiased examination does show he's overrated as a storyte...

Re: Susperia Remake Score
Alternatively, producers picked him because the kids like him. Most of the time, producers don't know shit, and only care about the money. Let's not pretend they are picking him because he thinks he's the best. They might be, but far too often producers fuck up a movie rather than let the director ...

Re: Beautiful films?
I think you need to re-read that. If they weren't as beautiful as they were, he'd be forgotten in history. He'd be another name in a group of filmmakers who made giallo. However, his eye is what saves him from being a mediocre filmmaker. He's like Janice Joplin. If she hadn't died when she did, kno...

Re: Beautiful films?
His movies are quite gorgeous and I own many of them for that reason. The story and writing though; not impressive. It's run of the mill stuff. If his films weren't gloriously beautiful, he'd be forgotten in history. Forgotten where in history? By whom? Horror fans have stunning memories. And dedic...

Re: Susperia Remake Score
You are giving producers a shocking amount of credit here. Well, I'm guessing most people don't think the music is going to make or break the finished film. I'm not sure on which side I usually wind up. But all the producers need to be assured is that Yorke knows what kind of movie he's scoring. My...

Re: Beautiful films?
When I think of a "beautiful film" I think more of consistent, spectacular cinematography than I do a single scene. A hack can make a movie with a single 'beautiful' scene or framing, its' like a broken clock being right twice a day. There are very few films I've seen that are top to bott...

Re: Susperia Remake Score
Well... I guess I'm just more accustomed to artists changing their style. But I was also under the impression, as I read the article linked in the OP and all, this was Yorke's first score. Film score. Therefore, he doesn't have a reputation or established style in film music to cannibalize. Trent Re...

Re: Susperia Remake Score
So, what you're saying is that you haven't heard the new score yet? Obviously. However, I wasn't aware it prevented me from passing a subjective opinion on Thom Yorke's musical style. My point was that I expect he'll leave his personal inclinations toward ennui, etc, at home and deliver his best st...

Re: Susperia Remake Score
I hate Radiohead with a passion and can't really understand Yorke as a choice to score this film if he's going to stick to his usual melacholia. A big part of Suspiria is the sometimes batshit mental soundtrack by Goblin that punctuates some of the most powerful scenes. I can't see that a Thom York...

Re: Best Film In a Horror Series
I kinda think Hocus Pocus in a way is a Horror film, a family-oriented one but Horror none the same as it has enough Horror elements in it. For me, it's a combination of aesthetic + effect. If it's creepy externally and it's meant to feel externally creepy while it's communicating an internally cre...
