The Irishman

Post by Alien Redrum »

Fanfuckingtastic. Scorsese knocks it out, and not going to lie, watching so much of DeNiro and Pacino in the same scenes is pretty awesome.

Also, I'm generally (mostly) annoyed by Pesci's characters because many times they are ridiculous caricatures. But not here. He's awesome in this.

I want more of these direct-to-STREAMING SERVICE movies. I can't deal with theaters.

Don't watch the trailer if you haven't. No need to.

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

Why don't you want me to watch the trailer? That's kind of weird.

Gives away some of the people in it. I like to be surprised. Really great cast.

He’s a weird dude with some weird asks of people. I don’t really trust him.

I am curious to see this but I do think Scorsese and Pacino and De Niro are all long past their primes and far removed from decent work.... maybe this will change my mind.

I don't trust him either. I hope he's not reading this. I might watch the trailer anyway.

So I decided to waste my Sunday afternoon with this one.

It's Scorcese being a better Scorcese then he has been in a long time. That said the CG in this is fucking laughable when it comes to the characters especially the first scene in the truck, Wow. It's quite annoying honestly. I am willing to look past that for the most part though except the blue eyes on Deniro. I am being harsh as it is a fairly solid movie, Pesci is the best thing about it. Pacino is trying his hardest to not be Pacino (but we all know thats impossible). He and Deniro are honestly the weak links in this IMO.

It's an interesting take on the mob movie. Slightly too long. I was good up until the last 55 mins. Not that I didn't like the last hour, just I wish they would have trimmed some throughout, or accepted the length and made this a limited series in a 3 or 4 parts format.

Totally agree on all accounts, especially Deniro's dumb eyes and Pesci being AWESOME in this.

I still really like it though and will watch it again.

FYI, this is based on a true story (Deniro's story) and everything I've read said the real-life guy is a fucking liar.

Yeah a lot of it is probably bullshit, but that is the Scorsese way. He usually relies on unreliable narrators.

Its a decent film, I don't know if I will watch it again mainly do to it's length, but also because some times felt like I was watching video game cut scenes with that cgi.

The one scene that bothered me for other reasons that I will share because I find it funny:
Spoiler:
When Deniro comes home and his daughter was pushed by the guy at the store so he grabs her and brings her in front of the store. When he comes out with the shop clerk and starts kicking his ass he looks like such an old man with the slow ass stomps and kicks he is doing to the guy. I almost wish they would have brought in a double for that scene to give it some realness. It took me out of the movie immediately especially since this was supposed to be younger Frank.

I went to watch this last night then saw that it was 3.5 hours long and thought Scorsese lost it if he thinks I'm going to watch that for 3.5 hours.

I just started watching this right now, and i think the odds of me finishing it are very low. This is terrible. The young versions of themselves are 100% laughable. This is a Netflix movie because there's no way scorsese would dare try to release this in the theater.

And then it hits me... the guy who wrote this is a coast to coast guy. He pops up whenever they want to talk about mob things. Yeah, that's about the level of this movie.

This movie never ends. I don't really care about Jimmy Hoffa. I care even less about him since he's Al Pacino. I just want this to be over with at this point
