Official Horror DNA Book Club Thread

Post by Neon Maniac »

AR and Shiki wanted a thread where they could discuss books like they used to discuss episodes of Ghost Hunters. Here's the thread. I bet it never gets used.

Anyone have any ideas for a book?

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

What would you suggest? What about that book that kicked off this whole discussion between you and Shiki and nightvision Donna?

Right now Paul Tremblay's Disappearance at Devil's Rock is $1.99. I loved his last one, A Head Full of Ghosts and have been itching to read this one.

Before I spend $16.50 on a book I'm going to wait for Shiki to say he's in.

I'm going to be absolutely honest here.

1. There's nothing you can do to change my mind about this.
2. There's no fucking way I'm spending $0.01 even to buy *anything* virtual.
3. It's either going to be a physical book I can sell or give away, or it's going to be a virtual book someone pirated and I download somewhere.

I don't mind actually buying the book. I'm just not going to give anyone $10 for absolutely nothing. For $16.50 I can have something that others will read too at some point. Maybe it will be read 100 times in the lifetime of the book. But for magic air that I can only read on a certain device? Sorry, not sorry. That's the worse scam ever.

Oh, I don't blame you not wanting to paya $16.50 for a book. That's dumb. That's why I offered a $1.99 alternative. I don't pay more than that for books myself.

And if you have a Kindle, you can probably check your local library for it too via Overdrive and you won't have to pay anything.

I don't think you've read anything I wrote. :(

I don't mind paying $16.50 for an ACTUAL BOOK.

I will never pay *ANYTHING* for a file.

Yeah, tell me about the kindle and libraries. I GUESS YOU FORGET THAT I HAD AN EREADER AND A KINDLE WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BEFORE YOU EVEN KNEW WHAT AN EBOOK WAS.

WTF? We got our goddamn ereaders all about the same time. DID YOU FORGET ABOUT THE SONY, SIR! You bought yours, raved about it, so I bought one for like $800 and never looked back.

I wouldn't even pay $16.50 for a physical book. Fuck that. I love digital. I have a gajillion books that I don't have to put on a bookshelf. That's right, a gajillion.

Glenn Rolfe's Slush is FREE right now, and while I haven't read him, I've heard some really good things.

Thank you. YOU JUST ADMITTED THAT I HAD ONE FIRST AND YOU MADE MY POINT THAT YOU BOUGHT THEM BECAUSE OF ME.

So instead of paying money for physical goods that you can use to trade or sell for other physical goods, you're putting all of your money in magic air that you can't do anything with and disappears when the electricity goes away. Yeah, perfect sense.

And Shiki isn't posting here. He doesn't want us to do this :(
