Abominable Science!: Origins of the Yeti, Nessie, and Other Famous Cryptids

Post by Alien Redrum »

Has anyone ever read this or anything by the author? I picked it up on sale for $2.99. I want to try to start reading more things around cryptozology, and this seemed pretty interesting.

Will do. I need to clear off my review obligations first, but this looks to be next up.

I didn't look through it all the way but I'm wondering if it's just some kind of lame ass skeptic. I don't care if someone's a skeptic but honestly writing a book trying to prove they don't exist or can't exist is like writing a book trying to convert people to atheism. And now that I wrote that I'm guessing there are probably lots of books trying to convert people to atheism because skeptics do stupid shit like that

Looking deeper, it appears it is a skeptic's look at it. I'll still give it a shot. I'm okay with a skeptic's point of view if they lay out a good case without being a condescending asshole.

So not a book, but you should check out Micah Hanks' podcast Sasquatch Tracks https://sasquatchtracks.com/ as someone who wasn't all the into sasquatch this has been pretty interesting. Not sure why they haven't posted a new one in the last month, hopefully they will continue it.

Thanks, I was curious as to what relationship his local culture would have with sasquatch.

Isn't the Wood Booger in the Carolinas? Some sort of offshoot of Bigfoot?

They have stories about them with a few different names. Sasquatch is a word in the Salish language, which is what the NW first nations spoke. So it wouldn't have been called that over there, not originally anyway.

Your discovery+ post jogged my memory on this. I just listened to the first episode of this, and I liked it a lot. I like how he asked the guy two questions, what makes him think bigfoot exist and what is the argument against it.

Also, I like how the guy said a group of scientists went looking for a Canadian grizzly that migrated to the Northwest area for 5 years and never saw one, just evidence of them. Shows how easy it is to not be seen by people.
