The Devil Next Door

Post by Alien Redrum »

Shiki's post of that other documentary reminded me of The Devil Next Door. Caught this a little bit ago and really dug it. I knew nothing about it going in (not even the story, I never knew anything about this) and it was pretty good.

It's put together in such a way where you'll be, "HE DID IT." and then a few minutes later "WAIT, NO."

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

Is this something streaming now? Is it a series or just a show? Yes I know I could go over to Netflix and do all that research but you know what I am on horrorDAN a right now and I just want to further the conversation. I'm not going to watch the trailer because trailers kind of suck nowadays and I might see something that makes me not want to watch it.

It's a series of 5 episodes. Shiki will hate it because it's too long, but I thought it was just right.

Thing is, I just started watching it because I thought it was about a serial killer. But it's not about a serial killer.

If you didn't watch the trailer, you're in for a treat if the name is unfamiliar.

Is all of this on Netflix, or is this another one of those shows where there's only some of the episodes and they're all full of commercials?

I just started this. I think this is one I wanted to see but forgot about. I don't care what the doc is about, I'm just going to believe that guy is Ivan.

I love how it's laid out, especially for someone like me, who didn't know the story.

It lays everything out there, but it toys with what you think, which I think a good documentary should do. It gives you both sides equally, so your opinion is swayed.

By the end, though, I too am confident it's him.

I vaguely remember it from when it happened, but not in a detail oriented way, so this is all new to me too. I think the problem I'm having with it is that I already 100% believe he's Ivan. Why? I have no idea.

Actually, I think I do know why.

Seeing him in court he's not freaking out or getting angry. You take me from home and say I'm Ivan, I'm going to be pissed and showing it in court. He's not. He's coasting through it and I think it's him just trying to be cool and ride it all out.

That's a good point. I ended up believing towards the end when all the evidence was there, but you're right. He's gotten away with it so long, he's cocky and comfortable.

I watched the first two now. I don't think the guy saying he took the train from Poland to Florida is going to help much.

ep 3
Spoiler:
in the beginning when he's listening to the other guy get called out for saying that he had killed ivan years before, his reaction is a little off. He's coasting, then starts cracking up when he realizes that the guy just hung himself. I don't know why yet but his reaction seems odd. Also when he's yelling at the guy and calling him a liar, no matter what the reality is that guy is a liar. Meaning if that is Ivan, I have a note saying he's lying about having killed him. If that's not Ivan, then he's saying the guy is lying about him being Ivan. So it's one of those things that doesn't prove anything either way.

Did you know that Maya Rudolph as the producer?

Ep 4
Spoiler:
He takes it in stride when he's pronounced guilty and sentenced. If I was innocent, I'd be screaming and shouting.
