I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

After avoiding damn near everything about this film, I finally saw it last night and... fucking wow!

I can't possibly recommend this film enough as it's easily the best horror flick I've seen this year.

I said on twitter that this effectively destroys the notion that there is no original horror anymore. When you think you all have it figured out, it takes a wicked little turn and goes another direction. And the last 1/2 is superb.

If you haven't seen it yet, I'd recommend not even watching the trailer. Go into it blind and you'll have a great time.

I think this is comparable to Martyrs with its twists and turns.

I haven't seen it yet, and while I've seen ads for it, enough to know that there's some kind of twist to it, I haven't actually found out what that is.

Gave me a huge buzz, like no other American horror has in many years. Can't remember when I had this much fun watching a movie. And yes, totally agree on its originality. This will definitely be a horror milestone, and I wonder how many films will follow suit in the same way there are dozens of found-footage and torture movies after Blair Witch and Hostel respectively.

No, it's on my to-do list but I haven't seen it yet. I get the impression it's nowhere near as light-hearted as Cabin though.

Also, [shameless plug]we have an interview with Martyrs' Morjana Aloui and a set visit to her new film Haters in the next episode of Horror DNA TV[/shameless plug]

I agree with everything in this post. It is a great film. I enjoyed every aspect of it. The writing was spot on Whedon. "He has a husband bulge."

Drew Goddard did a great job directing, I hope he does some more films.

It does remind me of Martyrs, which I have been wanting to rewatch again, so now I have another reason to. Is there a good Blu release of Martyrs anywhere?

:yay:

Anyone doesn't like this movie has no right to bitch about Hollywood's unoriginality. Ever.

I thought the first half was disappointing, uninspired and boring, the second half was fantastic.

Really?

What about the scene with...
Spoiler:
The Harbinger being on speaker phone? Hilarious.
I can't see the first half being seen as uninspired and boring. I can see someone being disappointed with it, maybe. I'm not.

If you are talking about just the part with the kids in the cabin, I think that's the point. While I didn't find it disappointing or boring, it certainly (intentionally) followed the typical pattern of horror movies, then BAM! That's why the second half is So Good. And it makes the movie as a whole so tremendous.

And that diary reading? What Shiki mentioned? That was hilarious.

YOU ARE WRONG. ENJOY YOUR REMAKES, ASSHOLE.
