I have to admit that I've never made it more than a half hour into this movie before falling asleep. I need to try again.

Edit: So I did - entertaining enough. Joel Schumacher makes an 80’s euro-horror flick, but instead of using valuable screen time on naked women and gore it’s filled with self-loathing and a need for closure. What an appropriate way to kick off the 90’s.

Mine too. Phantasm is a great series.

I watched the Nightmare on Elm Street remake to see if it's as terrible as everyone says. It's not. It's not great either. Jackie Earl Haley had impossible boots to fill and doesn't do a bad job to be fair, but if you have Robert Englund as Freddy ingrained into your psyche he's just... wrong. They played a lot more on the child molesting side of the character which would make it difficult to turn Freddy v2.0 into the wise-cracking anti-hero that the source material made him.

I've been watching the shorts on Hulu for "Huluween". They are overall pretty decent.

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

I watched Remains last night, based off the IDW comic book of the same name by Steve Niles. I'm sure the source material is very good, but holy shit the movie is bad. It's a Chiller original, so maybe I shouldn't have been too surprised. A bunch of people hole up in a Reno casino after the zombie apocalypse kicks off. Survivors... zombies... the army turns up at one point... I mentally checked out after the first 40 minutes so I wasn't really paying attention. It's really bad.

Today I watched Sweetie, You Won't Believe It - possibly a first in it being a Kazakhstani outback comedy horror. Dastan is a downtrodden and nagged husband to his pregnant wife. Needing an escape, he takes off with his buddies for a fishing trip, where they are unfortunate enough to witness a murder carried out by a bunch of small-time mobsters. That would be tricky enough, but there's also a weird one-eyed survivalist thrown into the mix whose dog was killed by the mobsters. Lots of cases of mistaken identity and some impressively gory murders pair up with ridiculous and over the top slapstick comedy. Joanna called it "Deliverance meets The Hangover" in her review, and that pretty much nails it.

For some reason we decided to marathon through some (all?) of American Horror Story. Currently into the second season and I am questioning why we are torturing ourselves so? I didn't mind Murder House on the first watch so much when it came out, wasn't a huge fan but enough to watch the second season. I know Asylum I start to lose it, just too much going on for no reason. I am dealing with it better this time, but its only been a couple of episodes. So, lets see. Curious to see how Coven sits with me as that was when I originally stopped watching the series... though I did return for Hotel and some of Apocalypse).

Thoughts so far. Murder House. So many things to not like about this story. Some Most of the characters are so unlikable and corny, I don't really care whats going on with them. Also again problem I have with the next season but to a lesser extent here is there are just too many unnecessary things going on. Ghosts and history of the house that are rarely relevant for more than an episode. Still, from what I remember, one of the stronger seasons of the show (what I have seen).

Asylum I am not hating as much as I originally did, but not too deep into it yet. I also am going in with super low expectations this time.

It's sad you can't appreciate AHS. All but Asylum are fantastic, I think. Coven is my favorite, how dare you besmirch the witches.

I didn't originally like Hotel or 1984, but after rewatching them I enjoyed them thoroughly.

What don't you like about the show?

Honestly its the cheesiness. The writing, the shoehorning in of things, I dislike a lot of the cast in general. its a lot.

I don't mind Coven that much, but this made me cringe soooo hard the first time around. I said that Coven made me stop watching, but it was honestly Asylum. I only watched Coven as of course, the subject matter interested me. But yeah. It was enough.

I get that. What helps me with those things is that I know they're doing it on purpose. Stevie Nicks was annoying, yes. But she was on there ironically, except it wasn't to Stevie. So it was kind of great.

I like the universe and mythology they're creating. Freaks was a great season that spelled a lot of that out.

Yeah, agreed. I think that is what is making it easier this time around.

Now I am interested in watching Freaks. I have always wanted to avoid that season.

Why did you want to avoid it? It's one of the best, but it is hard to watch at some points. Kathy Bates lays it all out when Elsa dies. Apply her speech to the series and the philosophy behind it.

I get your thing with the tropes and being obvious, but for me any ways, freaks is th season you realize everything is canned because the show is all about archetypes and their journey.

Primal Screen
This is a documentary about dummies in horror (and I guess in general) done by the people who did the underwhelming Room 237. It's...okay I guess. The filmmakers seem intent on making the documentary about them more than the dummies. It's okay, I wasn't mad I watched it. But like Room 237, it could have been leagues better.

Sugar Hill
I really like this film a lot and is criminally underrated in the Blaxploitation genre. It barely gets mentioned, and man, it's so much fun.

The Woman
I watched this for the first time a few months ago and it surprised me on how much I dug it. It's based on the book by Jack Ketchum, and now I really need to read the book now. Great performances all around and a great ending.

Terrifier
Yep, it's a slasher. No, there isn't much story. Amazingly violent and gory. Gets a full extra star just because I admire the lack of "fucks" it gives.
