The Color Out of Space - 2020

Post by shiki-jitsu »

I think most people will agree that The Color Out of Space might be one of Lovecraft's best stories. Seems like the took the story and altered it a bit. Nic Cage worries me of course, but this is looking good.

I have no idea why this story keep getting made into a movie. Wasn't it enough when it brought Wil Wheaton and Claude Akins together for The Curse?!

This movie looks better though, even if it's got Nicolas Cage and Tommy Chong.

Because it’s his best. and has anyone truly done it justice yet?

Like you said though, this looks good despite the casting.

I saw Die Monster Die a long time ago, and it wasn't a very good version. I honestly didn't realize it was Color out of Space. The Claud and Wil 80's movies has gotten a lot of play on Comet lately, and I watched it (tried watching it) about a month ago. It was really rapey and annoying.

Yeah, I think the story will be good, but I'm just no longer a fan of tired ol' Nic and Tommy.

Color Out of Space

I saw this last night. It was ok, even if you hate Nicolas Cage like I do. If you compare it to the other films made from this story, it's leaps and bounds above them. But really, that's not hard to do because all you're competing with is Die Monster Die and Claude Akins and Wil Wheaton in The Curse.

For capturing the 'spirit' of the story, this one definitely wins and does a better job of showing a descent into madness.

Merged this with the thread Neon started.

Yeah, I really want to see this. Apparently, the director has said this is part of a trilogy too.

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

I saw it in a local theater that I go that I go to. This is the place that has the huge HP Lovecraft 3 day festival every year.

I really don't like that you merged my ideas with Shiki's. Maybe next time I do something I'll just check with Shiki first to see what his thoughts on it are.

That is awesome. If I live to retirement, I'm going to be pretty set. I'm gonna add that to my list of things I wanna do.

One thing about the movie. On one of the movie trivia slides they had before they start of it, it said that the director wanted Cage for the part because of his acting in Vampire's Kiss. He said that's exactly what he wanted for the dad. Cage does a really good job of that. He's very much the paranoid, that escalated quickly guy from Vampire's Kiss. I realized about half way through the movie that Cage is wearing a hairpiece in this movie. It's the same hairstyle as he had in Vampire's Kiss.

Come out for the festival? I actually have never been. It sells out really quick. I do want to go though. Last year they also did a 24 hour horror marathon that sold out before I even knew about it. I'm thinking of becoming a sponsoring member just so I can find out about things and get priority admission to things sometimes.
