I'm a huge fan of James Garner, but I've never seen this one. I have it on in the background right now and I keep laughing at his no-bullshit approach.
One thing I love about him (maybe the biggest thing) is he can be both hilarious and you know not to fuck with him all at once.
This movie is a riot, though. Even if I'm only marginally paying attention to it.

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

Yeah I know what you mean.
There's also another one called support your local gunfighter. I think it's probably got the exact same cast, a similar script and not related at all story-wise.

That one started playing next (they are both on YouTube, free w/ ads), but I put on Miami Vice.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of his too, but I think it's funny that he basically made a career of making the same TV shows and movies with the same people, over and over again for 40 years.
If you IMDB him, you see Maverick and Rockford almost up until he dies. And pretty much every movie that's not a Maverick or Rockford, really still is a Maverick or Rockford unless it's a movie he's doing with other people.

You're absolutely right. No argument from me. He's unique in the way in how he's aloof and funny, but he also projects this badass. Like, it's all fun in games until he knocks you the fuck out.
But, even with that, the reason why I love the Rockford character so much is he is a badass, but he's also normal. He does get his ass kicked. He's real.
Yeah, I agree with you for sure. Even in The Great Escape, he's Rockford.

Re: Support Your Local Sheriff
I think it's a role he's great at, so I don't really mind. There are a lot of actors from that era who are like that, like I think Steve McQueen is the same way, but he wasn't as prolific. Garner was just lucky enough to be doing it a lot and didn't care if he was on TV or movies. I think he made a lot of entertaining shows and got to work with all of his friends. When you start seeing Angel pop up in the westerns it's kind of funny.
