The Ghost and Mr. Chicken

Post by Neon Maniac »

I'm watch The Ghost and Mr. Chicken on Svengoolie right now, and I always forget how much I love this movie. I hope Rob Zombie never remakes it.

Is that the one with Don Knott?

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

Would I like it if I can't stand Don Knotts?

I don't know. He's the star, so he's in every scene. The cast is mostly sitcom character actors from the 50s and 60s. The leading lady is Playboy Playmate Nov, 1958. I think this is probably Don Knotts at his finest. He's subtle, and he's not mugging for the camera. I find most of his early movies are his best work, and nothing like you know him from TV. I would also recommend how to Frame a Figg and The Reluctant Astronaut.

Oh, good, because I HATE his TV stuff for this shit. I always hoped Barney Fife would die in a shootout in a Very Special Andy Griffith Show, and Mr. Roper >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than his horseshit Furley.

That is something he did with Andy Griffith, and goes way back to a character he did in No Time for Sergeants which was an Andy Griffith movie based on a Broadway show he wrote in the fifties. He also acted like that with Tim Conway, and then it kind of became his de facto characterization for TV in the 80s and beyond. Don Knottts just being himself in the 60s, doing movies is a lot different.

I'm watching this again and absolutely happy because I know this is a treasure that AR cries about and will never be able to enjoy.
