Horror discussion #2 - Dog Soldiers

IMDB Synopsis
A routine military exercise turns into a nightmare in the Scotland wilderness.

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

Another one I liked a lot. Another one I'll post more on later.

An awesome, awesome movie.

Soldiers. Werewolves. Accents.

Suspenseful, gory, with good characters and intelligent (generally) actions by same.

Neil Marshall's first.

Great movie with non-CGI werewolves that look surprisingly good. A lot of fun.

Loved it!! I love the fact that it has good old fashioned monsters and not "computer painted" ones, also the cast is great.

If I could change just one thing about this film it would be the quality of the DVD transfer, its not bad by any means but it has quite a bit of "enhancement" that at times takes away from the film.

On a side note I watched ALIENS last night and I think that this film actually entertains more than Aliens........of course it may be that i have seen Aliens at least 50 times.

I am going to refrain from calling you retarded for saying Dog Soldiers entertains more than Aliens.

This is me refraining. :)

But I also enjoyed Dog Soldiers quite a bit. Best werewolf movie I've seen in 15 years.

I liked it, but don't feel the need to see it again for a long while.

Yeah, I've got to cosign this one.

Sorry, Walls. Aliens is my favorite movie.

Like I said its most likely because I have seen Aliens at least 50 times, ANY movie starts to lack in its entertainment value after that many viewings. ;)

Kangas, um.....nevermind.

I think this has to be my favourite movie. Being a Brit makes it easy to relate to the characters, and the cameradery between them. The humour between the soldiers is very typical of the acerbic wit of northerners (Spoony & Joe have North East accents, Cooper is Scottish) and I love the banter between them. I think one of the strengths of this movie, and subsequently The Descent, is the very believable characters. The soldiers are full of bravado, but still get scared when faced with something that they've never encountered. I absolutely love the fight between Spoony and the werewolf in the kitchen, it actually looks like he's fighting for his life, using anything he can get his hands on as a weapon and channelling all his fear and aggression into the fight.

Realistic, gritty, strong characters, plenty of gore and a great story. Highly Recommended.
