Braindead vs. The Evil Dead

Post by GraveyardManiac »

For me, "Braindead" is easily the superior movie. To be honest, I don't like "Evil Dead" and am not capable of understanding the praise it gets. :)

"Braindead" is awesome. My favorite scene:
Spoiler:
The preacher beating up on the zombies and then getting himself killed with his Bruce Lee stuff. Hilarious.

I havent seen Braindead so I didnt vote. But I will see if I can get a copy to watch and then place my vote!

I love all three ED flicks, part 2 is my fave.

I voted for The Evil Dead. It's cheesy, it's fun, and yet, it's still one of the scariest movies out there. Even though I didn't like the sequels, the original remains one of my favorites.

As for Braindead (or Dead Alive), other than the grandma falling apart at the dinner table, and her early tirade over a vermin infestation, I didn't really care for the movie. It's a very exlusive horror film for a very exclusive group of horror fans, and I wasn't one of them.

Evil Dead every time. Not just because, overall, it's a better movie than Braindead (and I really like Braindead) but because it was so damned important to the genre and an inspiration to generations of film makers who see it as proof that you can have a major success with something made for peanuts.

If I am informed correctly, that's actually a huge budget compared to "Halloween", which was $200,000.

Neither. I wasn't impressed by either of them. Both seemed pretty boring.

I'd understand quite a large number of descriptions, but "boring" sure isn't one of them. :what:

I think it had a lot to do with when I saw both films. I saw them both for the first time within the past two years or so, after I've seen many better movies and movies that have probably taken a lot from those two. I understand that they seem to hold this cult status, but I just don't see it.

I see, thanks for the explanation, my friend.

Perfectly said. That's exactly how I feel as well.

I don't think it's nearly as exclusive as that. Unless only Troma fans like it. And I can't stand The Toxic Avenger (maybe one day I'll get a sense of humor about graphic, sadistic animal mutilations but I don't have one now), so I'm not in that group. In fact, it's because this film stands out among the legions of excessive, silly gore flicks (Evil Dead 2 being one of them), and is so voraciously original that I think it deserves all the hype it gets.

I still liked The Evil Dead more, so I voted for it.

Such as?

In the realm of zombie and demon splatter films, there are none better than The Evil Dead and Dead Alive / Braindead.

I love both, but The Evil Dead is really in a class by itself.
