American Werewolf vs. The Exorcist

Post by GraveyardManiac »

For me, "An American Werewolf in London" is easily the better movie. In my opinion "The Exorcist" is totally overrated (maybe I do think so because I have seen it only recently for the first time and not some decades ago as probably most other horror fans).

Your view? :)

Completely undecided on this, as they are two very different movies. There are times I'm in the mood for one, but not the other, but it doesn't take away from either.

Speaking of John Landis... ZOMG SHAMELESS PLUG.

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

Do you think I should have more similar movies in these battle threads?

Yeah, they're completely different films. It would make more sense for a poll with choices like The Exorcist vs. The Omen or An American Werewolf in London vs. The Howling.

Anyway, I still choose The Exorcist. It's probably in my top five of any genre. I was so excited when I got to meet Linda Blair last October. She was so nice.

American Werewolf for me.
The Excorcist scared the crap out of me as a kid but I have really never had the urge to watch it again (I have seen it a couple times on cable in my adult years) , as a matter of fact I dont even own a copy.
But AW I can watch a couple times a year. I will also add that AW vs. The Howling would be a better discussion. THAT would be a tough choice for me, I love The Howling and rank it easily in my top 20 or so.

Definitely the Exorcist. I've never been a fan of the werewolf genre, other than Ginger Snaps. While American Werewolf has some great stuff in it, nothing beats Linda Blair fucking herself with a crucifix.

American Werewolf in London.

I appreciate The Exorcist for its' intelligence, near-perfect execution, high production values (for its' time), great acting and very smart and astute character writing, but... it's a movie that deeply believes in God. And, I don't pretend to know if there is a God or Gods- but I also can't believe anyone else who says definitively that there is or isn't one. A movie that does. So, I have to question the reason for The Exorcist's existence. It makes me very uncomfortable when I have to question a filmmaker. For American in Werewolf in London, you don't need to believe anything.
