Though I still think Mallrats is his best movie, and the only one I can still watch.

When Clerks came out I loved it. Thought it was great*. I remember watching it years later on IFC when they used to do this thing where they would air the movie with the commentary tracks from the laserdisc and the commentary of Smith made me hate the movie.

I can't stand the point people try to make about his scripts being so great. It's the same thing that annoys me about Tarantino. The writing of either them is not that great. But I find the same people that think they are great also think Swingers is awesome. Same shit.

Clerks 2 is terrible.

In short:

Clerks/Clerks 2: Loaded with hobgoblins
Mall Rats: Hobgoblin free
Chasing Amy: Small hobgoblins, you barely notice them.*
Zach and Miri: It's got one hobgoblin, but it's a huge one and it eats your face.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back: hobgoblins, but you expect them so they're part of the party. They do wear on though.
Dogma: Almost escaped the hobgoblins, but Jay and Silent Bob brought their own.
Jersey Girl: Tempted to say it's hobgoblin free, but the whole movie is a hobgoblin so it fools you.

From this day on, all movies at Horror DNA should be graded based on hobgoblin content.

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

Red State teaser

Post by dylanofthedead »

Did anybody else here the audio from Kev Smith's Red State, he screened it for twenty or so people at the Smodcastle (his podcast theater) and posted the audio online. Have to bare in mind that all I've heard is Michael Parks' voice, but I'm pretty intrigued..

Have not heard it. Is there a link for the lazy (me)?

(Merged with the Red State topic, BTW).

Kevin Smith started up a new podcast called Red State of the Union where he's answering questions from the fans about the movie. No press allowed.

Yeah, the Smodcast network is actually really funny, not sure how long this new Red State pod can last though, hope he doesn't drown us with information about it, I kinda want to go into it blind. It sounds good, very low key, but in a good way - listen here: http://smodcast.com/redstate/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's a free download.

Release date is now October 19th, but they're having screenings in March across the country.

Depending on the price, I'd love to check out the one at Radio City Music Hall.

I wish I was in the USA, I'd love to check out Red State when it hits the road, even though the reviews from Sundance have been mixed. Seems like most critics have a vendetta against Smith, at least he's doing something interesting with the whole Smod empire and his soon to be created distribution company. Can't fault him on that I guess. Plus Michael Parks does look pretty creepy from what I've seen/heard from Red State, deff worth a watch i think. Apparently his next, Hit Somebody, will be his last film..

After fees it's $68 per ticket for the Radio City show. I really want to see this but I can't drop that much right now. It wouldn't be that bad if Ticketmaster didn't slap all those fees for ordering online. I don't know if that even includes tax.

My favorite moment of Smith on O&A this morning* was when Smith said he took the idea of of bringing his movie around himself from the idea of indie rock and punk shows. Yeah. Generally the point of a punk show is to not charge $68. :shake:

*other than him saying he won't be making any more movies after the next one :yay:
