I love Japan.
Any ideas what the other countries were referencing?

I got worried halfway through your commentary that you were not going to like it.

No, I loved it. The opening third or so wasn't lame at all in retrospect, it was actually kind of funny in the entire context of the movie. Dang good. I was hoping to see more of the old gods, but what can you do?

In person he is a teddy bear that just wants to hug you and burrow his nose in your neck.
Or atleast thats how I like to remember it.

Re: Horror Movie Discussion #37 - The Cabin in the Woods
Okay, I've watched this twice now, done some research on it ( ) and I'm ready to make an actual thoughtful post on it. I'm tossing this out for comments or other insights.
Throughout the movie, the control room guys talk about upstairs and downstairs. I've taken this to mean the metaphysical good/evil dichotomy. Downstairs obviously being the evil old ones and upstairs, whatever might pass for good, not necessarily the Christian God, as downstairs was definitely not the devil. Anywho... all of the other countries fail and no sacrifices are made, so it's up to th US. The tunnel doesn't blow up, and we find out that it was due to a 'power reroute from upstairs' (or something similar, it doesn't matter, it was caused by upstairs). This leads me to believe that upstairs has decided that it's time for the old ones to arise again, and have used their influence to make the sacrifices fail.
I think this is a fairly spot on theory and I'm posting it because I haven't read it anywhere else. Thoughts? Other ideas?

The theory I've heard and liked was the downstairs is the audience that you must keep happy and the scientists are the filmmakers and the upstairs is the studios.

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

That's an interesting take. I'm talking about within the context of the movie though.
