Silent Night, Deadly Night

Post by Alien Redrum »

Since it's the holiday and all, I'm watching some Christmas horror still, mainly because I have a few Scream Factory discs I've been holding onto for this occasion. One of which (although it came in recently) is the Collector's Edition of Silent Night, Deadly Night (Zig's review).

Anywho, this is one I always like. I mean, it doesn't have the delightful Garbage Day sequence made famous in part two, but it does have a few delightful scenes of various adults turning children off to Christmas forever.

"I was thinking about my parents."
"Good, good! A boy should think about his parents."
"They're dead."

I dig this one probably more than I should because admittedly part of it is straight cheese. But man, it also is just serious enough not to be ridiculous.

This song, played early on, always stands out. It just doesn't fit, but I think that's part of the charm of the movie.

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

I prefer Christmas Evil. It's got Fiona Apple's dad in it. Is Fiona Apple's dad in yours? Is anybody's dad?

Linnea Quigley is in it for a second.

My dad is in Garden of Hedon.

I didn't know that about Fiona's dad. Christmas Evil is on my list because I can't remember the last time I watched it.

I haven't seen it in years. I think the last time I saw it was on TCM. It's definitely low budget. I only know Fiona Apple's dad is in it from IMDB'ing it while watching it. I haven't seen Silent Night for years either, I should watch that one. Is this the one with the sorority? Which one is that? I think I always confuse this one with that one and skip it.

As well she should have. Those orphaned kids have enough going against them in life, and having that faulty belief in Santa is only going to do them harm in the long run. Good for that nun. She's trying to fast track them into a decent life.

It's the one where the kid sees Santa kill his parents, is brutalized in an orphanage, then is forced to dress as Santa as an adult. It's so delightfully fucked up.

A rewatch has helped me to appreciate it more, but I think Part 2 is vastly superior. As in: it's an uncherished, unrecognized gem. Undiscovered genius. Brilliant. Etc.

Christmas Evil is okay. It's well-made but I remember being disappointed when I first saw it that it wasn't weirder.

Stare at the dark too long and you will eventually see
WHAT ISN’T THERE.

Hell is empty and all the devils are here.
