When that was aired, I wonder how much the trope of eating pet food was being used in TV, and if it was shocking to the audience to know that she did and everyone was so matter of fact about it. There was an episode of Archie Bunker's Place where one of his friends from the bar was broke and had to eat dog food that he shared with his dog. There was less sympathy and more comedy there, and it was a desperate one time situation; not like this where it's obvious that may be her regular deal.

I bring that up as they were roughly the same era, made by the same producers/creators, but handled differently between whites and blacks.

That's interesting. And, yeah, I think the reason that episode stuck with me is how powerfully honest it is. She's all, "Yeah, assholes, I eat dog food sometimes, but I wouldn't serve it to you, you fucking dicks."

Happening Now: Marshal of Marshal, Will and Holly is guesting on Alice. He plays a nude model from somebody's art class. This would be a couple of years after he got his ass fired from Sleestak Island, or whatever it was called. He still has greasy curly hair, but he doesn't look as drunk as he did in the chaka show.
