A Wounded Fawn

Post by Alien Redrum »

Caught this on Shudder because of all the hype around it. I still don't know how I feel about it. Lots of GREAT visuals, but it's just kind of...ho hum.

I think Shiki will tell me how I'm wrong about it and I just don't get it, and Horror Dan will say it's pompous overrated bullshit. I'm somewhere in the middle.

Anyone watch it yet?

I'm thinking I might make one to keep in the trunk of the car though. Might be nice to have hot water if I ever have to watch a Matthews compound for 3-4 days hoping to get the drop on Sergio Frenchi. - Neon Bolan

I usually steer clear of Shudder Originals. They're usually shite movies they pick up cheap because nobody else wants them. That's my biggest beef with the last drive in. They make him show some of them occasionally and they always suck, and tldi will suck because jbb has nothing to say about it other than this is the director's first movie and none of these other people have been in anything. They made it for $35k. And there's the episode. And since it's a shudder og he can't say one negative word about any of it. It's always great.

After watching the trailer for this I saw absolutely nothing that changes my mind.

It's pompous overrated bullshit. I haven't seen it yet, but it is.

I don't even like horror anymore. I'm changing my name to Romantic Comedy Dan.

Speaking of Dead Fred, Roseville and the entire area is about 3' under water. I wonder if his coffin is floating out to the Pacific ocean? Also, I'm glad Romantic Comedy Dan and his family got to visit the area before it all washed away.

romcomDNA just sounds like a lot of jizz.... which may be fitting for this forum.

I thought it was a decent way to waste 90 minutes. Has a giant amount of love for 80's Italian horror/giallo, while tossing in some early David Lynch style cheapness. Feminism from male writers/directors usually comes off more cheesy than genuine, but here it's at least better than anything Mindy Kaling has poisoned. And a better movie than anything Argento has tossed out this century.

Agreed on all. I didn't hate it. I wasn't mad I watched it either because I was entertained. It didn't live up to the hype I've been reading (like, it's on a few 'best of 2022' lists and I expected more from it).
