Review:
Piper and Frances have returned to their hometown of Hazel Patch and they're immediately reminded of why they left. The town is dying, with buildings in disarray and weeds growing all over. The residents aren't much better. The sisters are looking for information about their mother, who has disappeared from the hospital where she was last seen, but answers are proving rather difficult to find.
We're now four issues into Long Lost's planned twelve issue run. By this point I was hoping for a bit more insight into just what the heck is going on. We're getting lowered very slowly into this world and it has been unsettling from the jump, however we are no closer to finding out what's happening than we were in the first issue.

There are a handful of hints as to the rocky relationship between Piper and Frances and their mother. There was a definite falling out and they were glad to put the town in their rearview mirror. There have been a lot of strange things happening around them lately and they've been handling them incredibly well, almost like this isn't too far out of the ordinary for them.
It's interesting to see the sisters walk through Hazel Patch. It's practically empty. They pass a boarded up school and a pack of dogs as they make their way to a small restaurant. You get the idea that this place is circling the drain. There are also some disturbing shots, such as the aforementioned dogs or some dark stained clothes hanging out to dry, that make you wonder what is lurking beneath the surface of this place.

The black-and-white images help reinforce this idea, like the life has been sucked out of Hazel Patch. Artist Lisa Sterle's designs for Piper and Frances serve as a nice contrast to this, as they appear more energetic and lively. They stick out in this town like they clearly don't belong here, despite calling this place home.
While Long Lost #4 is a slow burn, it picks up exponentially by the end. There are a few crazy moments that create some more questions. Most of all, they provide further examples for why Piper and Frances were so reluctant to come back to Hazel Patch. This town is friggin' weird and more than a little creepy. I mean, how many red flags do you need? While I had some doubts about where this might be going, the end of the issue brought me back.
