Travis started looking into his past once he made contact with some people that claimed to be his half-siblings.  This may be the biggest mistake of his life now that he's found out his birth father, David, is alive.  This could have been a heartwarming story of reunion if David was a normal individual.  Instead, he's a former cult leader with ties to the literal devil.  What do you get a guy like that for Father's Day?

The supernatural element of Sons of the Devil has been hinted at and downplayed from the start.  The flashbacks of David preaching to his commune seemed crazy, but not legitimately evil.  As time went on, we learned that David intended to murder his numerous children as a sacrifice to the devil, reframing him as an absolutely brutal madman.  This issue shows more of this side of David, picking up where the last flashback left off with him stalking through camp stabbing his various followers as they lie asleep in their tents.  Someone ruined his plans and he's taking it out on all of them.

This leads up to a startling confirmation of David's ties to the supernatural.  It's one of those page turns that will leave your jaw hanging and your eyes wide.  I'm not going to describe the whole thing, but there's one panel that sends shivers down my spine.  David is bloody and dying.  He's been shot in the gut.  He reaches up to touch the mirror with one blood soaked hand...only to have another grasp it from the other side.  It's such a creepy shot and it's so subtle.  Hats off to artist Toni Infante.

This is only the beginning of Infante's amazing work on Sons of the Devil.  Once we bounce back to present day, there's a tangible intensity permeating through every page as Travis must decide what to do now that he's face-to-face with his father.  You can see the indecision on his face that quickly turns to determination as he finally takes his life into his own hands.

You'll wince with every punch or kick that's thrown.  The background goes blank when the blows connect, leaving nothing but these two men duking it out.  Infante's pencils are loose, which works very well in this design.  The edges are sharp, bringing forth that tension.

Sons of the Devil is a pulse-pounding thrill ride that will take you into the depths of pure evil.  Davis has emerged as a heinous villain capable of some horrifying actions.  I can only hope that Travis is up to the task of putting him down.
