Review:

The adorable Baby Spawn is back for more violence, but first, he's got a tummy ache. After eating too much junk food, Baby Spawn has some food babies and now there's a horde of tiny monsters running all over his house. He's going to have to figure out what to do with all these little guys because he's got some rampaging to do.

Spawn Kills Everyone is a fun romp through the Image Comics titles. This follow up already feels like the awkward sequel that tries too hard. In case you hadn't figured it out, the humor is more than a little juvenile, consisting mainly of fart jokes. Baby Spawn literally poops out these creatures. Artist Will Robson plays up the comical facial expressions of Baby Spawn, making him appear every bit the cartoon he is.

Colorist Greg Menzie helps establish the tone of Spawn Kills Everyone Too with a vibrant color palette. This is not a dark, shadowy alley somewhere. It's a brightly lit home in the suburbs, illuminated by the glow of a TV screen. This makes Baby Spawn stand out, as he's this black and white force that doesn't entirely belong here.

Instead of finding sound effects, there's just the word “fart” plastered on the page over and over again in different fonts. This is just sad. Letterer Tom Orzechowski found a wide variety of fonts to use, but this is a waste of his talents.

What really feels awkward about Spawn Kills Everyone Too is how angry it is. There are some not so subtle jabs at Hollywood and Marvel Comics' success on the big screen. You can imply quite a bit from this from how long creator Todd McFarlane has been working to try to get another Spawn movie made. It looks like it's finally going to happen, so this comic comes across as a big middle finger to anyone that doubted him.

We don't really get any killing in this, so the title Spawn Kills Everyone Too is a bit misleading. Granted, this is the first issue of a four-issue mini-series, so there's still time. I can tell from this one that four chapters are going to be way too long for this. This is going to get a lot more uncomfortable before it's over.
