What do you do when ghosts start walking the streets? Unfortunately, the Ghostbusters don't have a Harrow County chapter, but Bernice is on the scene to protect these folks from everything that goes bump in the night, even if they don't appreciate it and scoff at her race or sexuality. That's just the kind of woman she is.

Bernice could best be described as earnest. She's strong-willed and determined, ready to do what's right, regardless of what other people may say or think in the process. This includes loving who she wants to love and using whatever means necessary to stop monsters. Artist Naomi Franquiz captures this perfectly. When an angry white man is dressing her down, you understand what's going through her head based on the expression on her face. This contrasts well with how she looks at her girlfriend, Georgia, with concern and caring.

Where Franquiz really takes off is with the monster Bernice finds in the woods. It's like a skeletal witch cloud. Its long black hair billows out over its green, smoke-like body. Its arms have physical form, appearing as long, spindly limbs ending in claws that could easily rip a man in half. Despite this horrifying visage, Bernice faces it with the same level of determination.

Letterer Tyler Crook uses a different font for this creature, adding to its unnatural appearance. It conveys a lilting tone that's matched by the wobbly shape of the word balloons. Its voice would surely haunt the dreams of all who encounter it.

Despite meeting a monster, Bernice's troubles are far from over. She may have won a battle, but the war is still raging on. Terrors are lurking within Harrow County and she's the only one who can hold them at bay. While it's probably frightening to live in a place like this, there is a certain level of wonder that comes from it, like anything can happen here if you just have a little faith. This mix of horror and adventure is what makes Harrow County special.
