Review:
In my time reviewing comics, I've seen anthologies of all shapes and sizes. Some set in the Old West or during times of war, others all about monsters or set in the same post-apocalyptic world. Tales from the Whorehouse of Horror is the first sex-themed horror anthology I've had the pleasure of reading. The book follows the format of the classic comics of old, such as Creepy and Eerie. Each story is introduced by the “madame of the post-mortem sex trade,” the Whore of Horror.
The three tales included in Whorehouse of Horror range in quality. The first, “Horror Highway,” is the clear standout. It puts a unique spin on the classic hitchhiker ghost story. Instead of picking up a girl and driving her home only to find out she's been dead for years, it's a hooker. The story gets increasingly ridiculous and bizarre, as the guy who picks her up is enraged, looking for either the $50 he lost or the sexual acts he's owed. Writer Yakov Levi plays on the tropes of the genre while poking fun at it.

Dio Lee's art on “Horror Highway” is the best in the book. It's clean and well-detailed with beautiful line work. He has an excellent use of shading in this black-and-white comic.
The rest of Whorehouse of Horror is met with diminishing returns. Each of the remaining two stories are less interesting and lack that tongue-in-cheek vibe of the opening tale. The last one, “Beware the Chikawuka,” is rather rough with artwork that looks sketch-like. Characters are poorly defined and oddly shaped. Some panels look unfinished. Plus, there's at least one panel featuring a hideous monster forcing himself on a tiger, which is just uncomfortable for everyone involved.

Tales from the Whorehouse of Horror clearly doesn't take itself seriously. It has fun with the sexual themes central to each story. If you can't find something like that humorous, this is not the book for you. I'm sure some will argue that it's offensive, but it's just a more graphic – and more horror-filled – version of teen sex comedies.
