It may feel like The Evil Within 2 has been and gone since it released back in October, but you’d be wrong. The comic series, The Interlude, which was previously released in two single issues to bridge the narrative between the first and second game, is now being released in a volume that combines the two. I reviewed issue one and issue two, so it only felt right that I reviewed the full graphic novel, too.

There actually isn’t too much more to add that I didn’t already say in the single-issue reviews, but in case you missed them, here’s a quick synopsis for you:
We follow Sebastian as he tries to solve two cases at once. One case is all business, trying to track down a serial killer known as The Nursery Rhyme Killer. The other case is much more personal, as he continues his search for his missing daughter, Lily.

Multiple narrative strands intertwine throughout the issues – as well as a number of visual styles utilising gritty reds and browns – and they left me unsure of what was real and what was just a figment of Sebastian’s tortured imagination. This is one of the main themes within The Evil Within, so it’s nice to see how well this translates over to the comic representation.

Having said that, some events seemed so surreal that I couldn’t actually tell you 100% what happened even now, so you’re sure to have plenty of questions for the game to answer if you haven’t played it already. In my book, that’s probably a good thing.

If you didn’t pick up the single issues of The Evil Within: Interlude back when they were first released, and haven’t yet picked up The Evil Within 2, I’d recommend treating yourself to the full graphic novel.

It wraps up the mind-bending bridge between the first game and the sequel in a neat, twisted package and includes all of the gloriously gory covers and an interview with the creative team behind Interlude. It’s everything you might want to bring a few scares, especially if you to unwrapped The Evil Within 2 over the holidays.
