It's the Hulk vs. Sasquatch in a hospital! At least when one of them gets hurt they are in the right place. Bruce Banner has tracked down his old college roommate Walter, who has just died on the operating table only to return to life as the monster known as Sasquatch. Banner knows a thing or two about this as he's suffered a similar fate. He's completely unprepared for what is really lurking within this beast.

We all know that Hulk is great at smashing stuff. The Immortal Hulk #5 definitely delivers on that as he goes toe-to-toe with Sasquatch. These two monsters are beating the ever-loving crap out of each other. Artist Joe Bennett delivers such clean, well-detailed images. If this was an action movie, it would be without the quick cuts that have come to define an entire generation of filmmaking. Instead, you can soak it all in.

Inker Ruy Jose brings all these fine lines to the surface and there are so many of them. You can see the individual lines of shadow that fall on both characters as they duke it out. These images are nothing short of impressive.

What brings The Immortal Hulk to new heights is not these two massive creatures pounding on each other, it's the inner struggle that they're both going through, trying to wrestle with a literal monster inside them. In the case of Sasquatch, there's something else deeply personal to Banner that catches him off guard. This is a startling moment that gives the Hulk pause. There's a look of abject fear in his green eyes. Just think about that for a second. What could be in there that would startle even the Green Goliath?

Although they're both frightening, Sasquatch is the scarier of the two. This could be because we're more used to the Hulk. It could also be the blood on his teeth. Colorist Paul Mounts adds just the right amount of red to his jaw, implying so much. You don't see him eat someone, but you can understand how it would happen and that's so much scarier.

Just in case you had any doubts that Sasquatch is a monster, he even speaks like one. Letterer Cory Petit uses this jagged font where you can imagine a guttural, terrifying voice speaking these heinous words. It matches up perfectly to the imagery.

The Immortal Hulk cuts deep. It shows a vulnerable side to the Hulk that is scarier than any of the chaos he's caused to date. Writer Al Ewing strikes right at the heart of the character, shaking him to the core. Bruce Banner has been keeping a low profile, but the events of this issue will be hard to keep under wraps. This is a stunning character study that never fails to deliver.
