The Crisis of Infinite Vampblades continues as Katie Prime works with an alternate, rookie Katie to take down a horde of the space vampires. They're attacked at home, so they have to act quickly to survive this onslaught.

This issue of Vampblade consists mostly of this battle, as our Katie shows this new one the ropes. This is a new role for her, as she's used to stumbling through these scenarios with no real knowledge of her powers or what the blades can do. Now she's the pro showing the newbie what to do, although there is still a league of seasoned Vampblades out there, which we'll get to later.

Artist Marcelo Costa and Marco Maccagni split up this issue. The transition happens in the middle of the battle, which is a little jarring as the two have different styles. Costa's work is a little less defined and lighter on the details, while Maccagni powers through with energy and intensity.

The two artists switch off again later on. This is definitely not ideal, as it makes for an uneven reading experience. If multiple artists were absolutely necessary, I would have preferred if there was a clear cut split in the story or change in scene to make the switch. Going back and forth is just messy.

The space vampires in this world are just as terrifying and unsettling as the ones back home, appearing as translucent monsters spiraling out of the mouths of their victims. Costa colors these with the same eerie purple hue we've seen in the series to date. This time around they're counted by New Katie's Sparta-like armor she creates with her blades, shining bright like a construct from a Green Lantern ring.

There's still a fair amount of humor within Vampblade, even in the heat of battle. There's a fun moment towards the end where our Katie unleashes a huge attack without thinking of the damage or bloodshed it could cause to everyone and everything around her. Her reaction is priceless and Maccagni captures it perfectly. It's a nice closer to the scene.

This story with the alternate Katie is fun, however it takes the focus away from the Intergalactic League of Vampblades. This is such an interesting concept that I want to see explored further. We're getting drips and drabs of it in this season with a couple pages in each issue. After how they exploded on the scene, I was expecting them to be the center of this season's story. With such a cool idea looming, I want to see this storyline wrap up quickly so we can get back to the League.

As it stands, we're taking a stroll down memory lane as our Katie is encountering the same villains she did when she was first starting out, albeit slightly altered versions. She's coming at them with a new set of eyes, but it does feel like we're rehashing some old storylines when there are so many possibilities for new, cooler stuff out there.
