Vampblade has had a wild ride lately. She's been in space, another dimension, and now, in Hell. She faces a wannabe devil who's been keeping women captive in this level of the underworld. Joined by her armored lover, Vampblade is going to take this evil jerk down.

Artist Marco Maccagni is an absolute all-star on Vampblade. He brings an unparalleled level of excitement and intensity to every panel. This ranges from the look of complete and total shock on Vampblade's face to the sly smirk of the devil. The action scenes are over-the-top and nothing short of awesome. Demons are literally torn apart by blades and energy blasts, sending internal organs flying every which way.

This blood and gore is matched by Marcelo Costa's colors. There is no doubt in your mind that these characters are in Hell. The background is alive in a fiery red and orange. It's clear that the sun has never shown in this desolate landscape. Vampblade's...uhhh...blades, leave this bright blue after-image, which is the only beacon of hope in this darkness.

Letterer Adam Wollet has some great sound effect placements throughout Vampblade (Season 3) #8. There's something so amusing about a sound like “Zzurpp” coupled with a demon exploding. The devil speaks in red word balloons with black font which adds to the sinister nature of this setting and this pinnacle of evil.

While the action and adventure of Vampblade is top notch, I have to question where the series is going. This season has been all over the place. We never really got a chance to process the fact that there's an interdimensional army of Vampblades out there. Instead, we've watched as our heroine has been thrown from one crazy mission to the next. Now we're in Hell, which looks cool, but doesn't entirely click. It's another tangent in this overall arc.

Vampblade takes another turn by the end of this issue so I'm curious as to where it might go next. Writer Jason Martin crafts a fun story with an equally fun main character. I just feel like she's been bouncing around like a pinball lately. I'm eager to dig into the mythos of the Vampblades and what that might mean for demons, space vampires, and other monsters of this world.
