Next week sees the release of The Beauty of Horror: Haunt This Journal, the next entry in this horror-filled creative series, serving as a companion to the stellar and spooky adult coloring books from creator Alan Robert and IDW Publishing. This time around, Ghouliana is heading down a path of madness and she's prompting you to add to the fun. We are delighted to share an exclusive preview of the book, which you can check out below.

“I tackled Haunt This Journal with the same mindset as my approach when creating the first Beauty of Horror coloring book. I asked myself, as a horror fan, what would I want this book to be?” says creator Alan Robert. “So this time, I set out to make the ultimate guided journal for horror fans. Every page should push the boundaries of your imagination and there are a lot of prompts inside that will absolutely creep you out. It encourages you to open your mind and let the spirits in and pushes you to connect with these energies. The results should be pretty interesting and I personally can't wait to see what fans do with these pages!”

The Beauty of Horror series has grown considerably since its launch in 2016. There are now six books in total with the latest debuting this month and a Tarot Card set coming out later this year. The exposure is crazy. You can find this at Target of all places!

“Creating characters that connect with people on an emotional level is what really drives me, so to see the wild success of The Beauty of Horror and how fans have embraced Ghouliana and her world is beyond anything I could've imagined.” continued Robert.

“When I started out in 2009, writing and illustrating horror graphic novels like Wire Hangers, Crawl to Me and Killogy, it was always awesome to meet fans and hear their feedback on my stories at Comic Cons and other signing events, but with The Beauty of Horror coloring books, it is a much more interactive and instantaneous experience. Every single day, fans from around the world tag me in social media posts of their mind-blowing color work, bringing Ghouliana's black & white world to life in such unexpected ways... and each one is unique. You can tell that the fans are super passionate and really pour their creativity into these pages too, and they make my designs their own. As the creator, there's nothing more rewarding. The books would be nothing without the colorists. Ironically, I don't think I can color anywhere close to some of these talented color-artists! They are incredible. Just pop the hashtag #TheBeautyOfHorror into Instagram and you'll see what I mean.”

Robert found a great and underutilized niche with The Beauty of Horror adult coloring books. Sure, you can color in mandalas and flowers, but what were the horror fans supposed to do? That's where this series came in and is quickly using up so many red crayons, markers, and colored pencils.

“When I was a kid growing up in the late-70s early 80s, there was a cool activity book series called The Anti-Coloring Book by Susan Striker. The books were filled with out-of-the-box creative prompts and the series was so much different than anything else out there at the time. It was basically the first type of guided journal I'd ever seen, and my sister and I were obsessed with them.” added Robert. “More recently, with popular activity books like Keri Smith's Wreck This Journal and Moriah Elizabeth's Create This Book. Fans just love to destroy those pages in creative ways... and it's awesome to see! But with all of these guided journals out there, there seemed to be a big void for a horror-themed one. I guess as a lifelong horror fan, I'm just always trying to create stuff that I want to see in the world, because sometimes it doesn't exist.”

The Beauty of Horror: Haunt This Journal is set for release on September 8th, 2020 and is currently available for pre-order.
