Frightfest Films in Focus #1 - Impossible Crimes

It's always fun to start digging out some details on the films that are screening at Frightfest, so let's kick off our series of in-depth looks at the films playing at the 20th Anniversary festival. Hernán Findling is no stranger to the horror genre, having helmed 2006's Director's Cut and Breaking Nikki (2009). This year his Impossible Crimes (Crímenes imposibles) will get its European premiere in August.

This Spanish-language thriller mixes themes of religion, bereavement and the supernatural and stars Sofía Del Tuffo (Luciferina), Marcelo Sein (Dead Man Tells His Own Tale), and Carla Quevedo (The Secret in Their Eyes).

Lorenzo, a seasoned police detective with a tragic past, is assigned to a series of related deaths. Something about the murders just doesn’t add up until a young nun known as a devoted servant in the community reaches out to him, claiming that she’s possessed by an evil force that is behind the killings. Lorenzo initially refuses to consider a supernatural explanation, but with logic leading nowhere and doubt creeping in, he must make the right choice between clinging to his convictions or taking a leap of faith as lives hang in the balance.
