Review:
Any movie is a gamble these days, indie or mainstream. But seeing as how almost anyone can grab a digital video camera and slap together a movie on some low-budget video editing program, indie movies can be even more of a gamble...and horror movies even more so. Zombie movies? Forget it.
Except this one.
End Times is just a flat-out great indie zombie flick. Great practical effects – which was awesome to see, that there isn’t too much cheap CGI – and great gore. The acting is pretty tight, too, which is always super important in a lower-budget film. I can accept slightly lower-than-normal production quality, but I want to at least believe – a little – these characters are real people.
Jamie Bernadette and Craig Stark do a great job in the main roles.
The tone is just right, too – pretty bleak without being totally hopeless. I would like to see more zombie movies focusing on the why of the zombies – this is another one of those that’s less about the zombies and more about how the outbreak has damaged humanity – but even given that, End Times is still a great flick, and definitely worth your time.
