ARCHIE COMICS ANNOUNCES HORROR IMPRINT

Things have been a little quiet on the horror front for Archie Comics lately. The publisher's two amazing horror titles, Afterlife with Archie and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina have been on a bit of a hiatus. Afterlife with Archie #7 came out in December and the first and only issue of Sabrina debuted in October. Since then it's been radio silence. Fortunately, Archie Comics has confirmed that the next issues of both books will be arriving soon. Sabrina #2 from writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Robert Hack will be hitting shelves on April 8th. Afterlife with Archie #8 – inspired by The Shining – from writer Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Francesco Francavilla is set to release on May 6th.

That's not all though. Archie Comics is debuting a new Archie Horror imprint which both titles will fall under for future issues. Look for the little logo on the top left of the books. Aguirre-Sacasa has also teased a possible third series that would join this new imprint.  I guess this makes it so people don't get confused and accidentally pick up one of these issues, thinking it's your every day trip to Riverdale.

"[The Archie Horror books] have prompted the best work of our careers," says Aguirre-Sacasa. "To take these iconic characters and reimagine them and place them in situations they've never been in before—it's a blast, and I'm glad people are responding to it."

I'm glad that the next issues of both Afterlife with Archie and Sabrina have been scheduled. They're both quality books and the former made it on my Top 10 for 2014. The inconsistent shipping schedule can definitely kill a comic so I'm hoping that with the creation of this new imprint that the books will be coming out in a more timely manner. I heard Afterlife with Archie #8 teased back at Special Edition NYC last June and I thought it was supposed to be a Christmas issue. Back at NYCC last October, Aguirre-Sacasa said he'd already plotted out the first twelve issues of Sabrina too.
