Crossed Wish You Were Here CoverAvatar Press has officially launched their new ongoing webcoming, Crossed: Wish You Were Here.  The first episode started up a few weeks ago with three total chapters online at the time of this writing.  You can check them all out for free at CrossedComic.com.

This is a full color series written by Simon Spurrier and illustrated by Javier Barreno.  It's set in the same continuity as Crossed, which was originally created by Garth Ennis.  Wish You Were Here expands upon the post-apocalyptic premise of a world overrun by psychotic killers and thrill-seekers.  You can expect a new chapter every Thursday for the foreseeable future.

Crossed is set in a world where a plague has transformed people into violent murderers.  Those who aren't infected are constantly hiding out from the rest of the crazed populace who sport a cross shaped scar on their face.  Unlike previous stories where survivors were always on the run, Wish You Were Here centers on a group looking to make a stronghold in a defensible island.

The main character of Wish You Were Here is a comic book writer, something that author Simon Spurrier seems to know a little something about.  “In the real world, folks who are practically-minded, farmers and fishers and builders and butchers, are rarely the ones making the Big Decisions.  So what happens when everything goes insane, when the class system no longer exists?  When the minimum-wage guy who knows how to tune an outboard motor or set a trap is suddenly more important, more indispensable, than a millionaire or politician? What does a writer do in a world where the one thing he’s any good at, the only skill he’s ever used to judge his self-worth, suddenly means nothing?”

This isn't Avatar Press' first foray into the weekly webcomic world.  They had a successful run with FreakAngels written by Warren Ellis not too long ago, so they definitely know what they're doing.  I had a chance to preview this book thanks to an ashcan comic Avatar provided at NYCC last year.  It's definitely not for everyone but I have a feeling a good amount of our readers will find it pretty damn awesome.
