Criminal Macabre 30 Days Of Night CoverSan Diego Comic Con is still a few days away, but the announcements are already starting to roll in.  Dark Horse Comics and IDW Publishing have announced that Steve Niles just can't choose between them anymore.  He's bringing two of his creations, Criminal Macabre and 30 Days of Night, together in a crossover.

Written by Niles and illustrated by Christopher Mitten, the book centers on Cal McDonald (star of Criminal Macabre), who's on the hunt for some beer.  Instead he ends up with a federal agent and a story about vampires in some small town in Alaska.  There's a new bloodsucker making waves in LA and Cal's buddy Mo'Lock has a ghoul friend who gets murdered.  This puts Eben, the vampire lead from 30 Days of Night, right in the crosshairs of Cal.

I love this idea because inter-company crossovers are so rare nowadays.  I'm glad that these two publishers are able to work it out, especially since I'm sure there's at least a few grumblings on IDW's side after Dark Horse got the rights to Angel back.  I love Criminal Macabre because of the humor and the play between Cal and Mo'Lock, but I wish they got a different artist for the book.  I'm not a fan of Mitten's work as I've said a few times in Funny Book Splatter.  I'm holding out hope though.

The first issue of Criminal Macabre: Final Night - The 30 Days of Night Crossover (Wow, that's a long title) hits shelves on December 12th, 2012.  What do you think of this crossover?
