If you were to ask me what the last Valiant character I'd expect to show up in a horror book, it would be Faith. She seems too positive and bright to ever be caught near something too scary. Imagine my surprise when the publisher announced Faith: Dreamside, an upcoming four-issue mini-series written by Jody Houser and illustrated by MJ Kim, where Faith will team up with Dr. Mirage in a tale somewhat reminiscent of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Here's the write-up from the publisher:

Even before Faith “Zephyr” Herbert gained the power of flight, joined the Harbinger Renegades, and soared through the skies of Los Angeles, deep down she was always a hero at heart. But what’s a hero to do in the face of a foe that exists only in nightmares? Face them head-on, of course! To protect the dreams of her teammate, Animalia, Faith must venture into a fantastical new realm the likes of which the Valiant Universe has never seen…and she’ll need some help from the world’s premiere parapsychologist, Dr. Mirage, to make it back with her subconscious mind still intact!

“I personally love horror and love writing it,” writer Jody Houser told Paste Magazine. “But as seen in her ongoing series, horror is probably Faith's least-favorite genre. Being a hero doesn't mean playing it safe, though. So even if she's scared, Faith will go where she needs when duty calls. Sometimes that's through time, and sometimes it's beyond death.”

I'm all for this. It sounds awesome and I'm very much looking forward to it. Faith: Dreamside #1 is set for release on September 26th. It will feature covers by Marguerite Sauvage, Sibylline Meynet, and Adam Pollina. Fans that pre-order all four issues with a special Faith: Dreamside #1-4 Pre-Order Edition Bundle will receive exclusive trade paperback-style extras and bonus content including creator commentary, behind-the-scenes looks at the creation of the comics, process character designs and artwork, and first looks at upcoming issues. You'll get all that, plus exclusive covers by Jenny Frison, David Lafuente, Meghan Hetrick, and Stephane Roux.
