I’ve been obsessed with Friday the 13th: The Game for a while and it doesn’t seem like I’ll be pulling the machete from my beating heart any time soon… Illfonic’s asymmetric multiplayer slasher is coming to Nintendo Switch with an Ultimate Slasher Edition on 13 August 2019. Jason is making mummy very proud.

If you somehow missed one of my many articles about F13th: The Game (from my beta preview to my full review) – firstly, that cuts deeps – and secondly, let me run you through what you need to know about this game.

Jason Voorhees is back once more, drawn from his watery grave by the demands of his deceased mother, Pamela. Teenagers are up to their old tricks at Camp Crystal Lake, and they must pay for what they did to her little boy. Even if he’s not so little anymore. Now that I’ve set the scene, here’s how it actually plays out:

One player controls Jason – one of multiple versions from the different films, each with their own unique style, strengths, and weaknesses – while seven others play as counsellors trying to survive. While Jason stalks them to one of many slasher-worthy demises, they must explore to find items; some items will help them able to fight or trick Jason, such as axes or firecrackers, whereas others are vital if they hope to escape, like car batteries, fuel, and keys.

And that’s not all. The Ultimate Slasher Edition of the game will include all previously-released DLC and also a limited edition 11x17 poster exclusive to the Switch version.

Pre-orders are around $39.99 through Amazon or GameStop and the Ultimate Slasher Edition of Friday the 13th: The Game will be released on Nintendo Switch on 13th August. If you’re yet to play this game and love the franchise, or even just gory multiplayer horror, you need this game. It’s as simple as that. You should be slamming this game into your Switch harder than a teenager in a sleeping bag into a tree... or something more normal. Just get it.
