IDW BRINGS MIDDLE GRADE HORROR TO THE MARVEL UNIVERSE

IDW Publishing has released a horror mini-series set in the Star Wars universe in October for the past two years. This time around, it's going to the Marvel Universe with Marvel Action: Chillers. Written by Jeremy Whitley and illustrated by Ahmara Smith, Bowen McCurdy, Bill Underwood, and Sweeney Boo, the four-issue mini-series follows Doctor Strange and Ironheart in a framing story, with other spooky tales featuring Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Elsa Bloodstone, and more.

"Marvel characters have an incredibly long and colorful history in horror stories, from the traditional Marvel Monsters, to Werewolf By Night, to Tomb of Dracula. Those were all titles that I loved growing up, and getting to introduce young readers to the world of spooky Marvel characters is an honor and a privilege. I can't wait for everyone to see what we're cooking up," says Whitley.

“IDW is excited to create a Marvel Action take on Marvel’s horror characters for younger audiences,” says editor Elizabeth Brei. “The diverse cast of characters, featuring classic Marvel heroes like Doctor Strange as well as relatively new additions to the universe like Nadia Van Dyne, is brought to the page by an equally diverse and incredibly talented group of creators. We can’t wait to share these creepy tales with everyone.”

This book checks a few boxes for me. I'm glad to see horror made for a younger audience and I'm also happy to see horror coming to the Marvel Universe. It's popped up in some select areas and there's a tremendous amount of potential there. We'll see how this book develops this October.
