IMAGE COMICS REVEALS SPAWN'S UNIVERSE #1 ARTWORK

Todd McFarlane has declared 2021 as the Year of Spawn and this June it's getting even bigger with the release of Spawn's Universe #1. Publisher Image Comics has shared some interior artwork from the issue by artist Jim Cheung and colorist FCO. Written by McFarlane, Spawn's Universe #1 is the launchpad for a multi-character interconnected comic book universe.

Spawn's Universe #1 will feature four different stories: Spawn, She-Spawn, Medieval Spawn, and Gunslinger Spawn. The issue will highlight characters from the past and present and introduce new villains. Cheung is handling the chapter with Spawn. Brett Booth is on Gunglinger Spawn, Stephen Segovia is on Medieval Spawn, and Marcio Takara is handling She-Spawn.

Spawn's Universe #1 will feature a number of variant covers including work from J. Scott ampbell, who will be doing a set of four covers, each depicting one of the major characters who will be making the biggest impact in the 2021 titles McFarlane is releasing. Others are done by McFarlane, Brett Booth, and more to be announced.

Todd McFarlane said: “I’ve waited almost 30 years to be able to get to this moment. To deliver on ideas, I hope they will grow from this initial seed called Spawn's Universe #1 into a fully formed world populated with hundreds and hundreds of characters in the near future. The stage will be set with this book, and soon I’ll be launching into new monthly titles for the first time since 1992. I can’t wait to show comic readers all the crazy ideas in my head as well as opening up the floodgate to so many talented creators that have said they’d like to join me on this journey.”

Spawn's Universe #1 clocks in at 52 pages and will retail for $5.99. It's set for release on June 30th, 2021.
