MACHINA CORPSE RE-RELEASES THE GOD MACHINE THROUGH KICKSTARTER

2010 saw the release of The God Machine by Chandra Free through Archaia. It was the first of a planned 13 volumes, but plans went awry. Free regained rights to the book and has taken to Kickstarter through her her own publishing company, Machina Corpse, to re-release an all-new version of the graphic novel, dubbed The God Machine: Volume 1 – Re:Vision.

“This isn’t a revisit,” Free says regarding the project. “This isn’t closure, or nostalgia, but rather a way to finally move forward. This is a great entry point for a new audience and gives a fresh coat of paint and new content for my existing audience. With a successful campaign, I can finally finish the second volume and build from there.”

Guy Salvatore is stricken with sadness and guilt. His world no longer makes sense. His girlfriend has died and he’s seeing monsters. Are they manifestations of grief or something more? A strange man in a graveyard tells Guy that his girlfriend is indeed alive, floating in and out of the “Dream Worlds” and that only Guy can save her! However, the Gods stand in his way of happiness. Could this be the uniting of young lovers, or the end of everything else?

“I’ve updated some of the dialogue that hasn’t aged well,” Free says, “as well as adding new scenes, redoing art in places, expanding on characters, and making the full story feel fresh.” In addition to the new text, art, and packaging, there’s a new logo and the book has been relettered in full. In addition, Kickstarter allows her to do things she could never do via traditional publishing.

“This is going to be an event,” Free says. “We’re going to have not just the new hardcover book, but we can have prints, posters, pins, all kinds of fun goodies you can get in one stop. It’ll be a whole new package of God Machine. I hope to make every volume feel special like this.”

The Kickstarter campaign runs through April 10th, 2021.
