MIKE MIGNOLA: DRAWING MONSTERS HITS KICKSTARTER

I very rarely back Kickstarter campaigns for projects outside of comics, but I'm definitely going to make an exception for Mike Mignola: Drawing Monsters. The documentary focused on the creator of Hellboy is so very much up my alley and I can't wait to check this out. Co-directed and producted by Jim Demonakos and Kevin Hanna, the film looks at Mignola's career including never-before-seen interviews conducted with the creator at his studio, drawing demonstrations, behind-the-scenes footage from comic conventions, and much more.

Mike Mignola: Drawing Monsters features interviews with Neil Gaiman, Rebecca Sugar, Victor LaValle, Vita Ayala, Duncan Fegredo, Fábio Moon, and Joe Quesada. It also provides an in-depth look at Mignola's legacy from the beginning of his career as an inker at Marvel Comics to the creation of Hellboy and beyond. Adam Savage, Doug Jones, Vanessa Eichholz, Christopher Golden, Mike Richardson, Katii O'Brien, Chris Roberson, Tom Sniegoski, Jason Shawn Alexander, Duncan Fegredo, Michael Avon Oeming, and Dave Stewart.

“There’s already 80 hours of footage in the can that we have shot over the last year and a half,” says Hanna. “This is an ambitious in-depth documentary to celebrate Mignola’s legacy in style.”

“We’re bringing the project to Kickstarter to secure the financing to shoot additional interviews, edit the film and score, and bring the film to market,” said Demonakos. “We want existing fans and curious readers alike to experience Mignola’s art and his incredible world of monsters and misfits.”

Rewards for the Kickstarter campaign include digital and Blu-Ray copies of the film, a Kickstarter exclusive t-shirt, original art, a commission by Mignola, executive producer creator on the film, and a Hellboy portfolio print set exclusive to the campaign featuring new 9”x12” Hellboy prints by Mignola and Dave Stewart, Lawrence Campbell, Duncan Fegredo, Alex Maleev, Paolo Rivera, and more.

Filming will wrap up later this year with the finished film debuting in the spring of 2022.
