The Buffyverse continues in 2017 and Dark Horse Comics has officially announced Angel: Season 11 launching in January 2017.  In reality, it's not really season 11.  It's Buffy Season 11.  Angel's seasons are harder to count.  In any case, writer Corinna Bechko, artist Geraldo Borges, and colorist Michelle Madsen are taking Angel back through time.

The series opens with the title character being tormented by – what else? – memories of past.  These visions create a direct link from his dark past to a new Big Bad coming in the future.  Illyria swoops in and helps Angel as he finds he may be able to change the future by traveling back in time and changing the past.  That's right, folks.  We're time traveling in the Buffyverse.

“I'm thrilled that I'll be helping to add to a little corner of the Whedonverse, a rich and exciting place that contains infinite possibilities for exploration." said Bechko. "Of course, the fact that I'll be doing so with Angel, one of the most complex and interesting characters, means I have big shoes to fill. But I can't wait to spend some quality time with him during this journey, and to have a bit of fun along the way!”

Angel & Faith, the previous Buffy tie-in book had some ups and downs.  The most recent one felt rather disjointed and unsure as to what it was trying to accomplish.  The first series was fantastic though.  Season 11 puts Angel on his own with only a dozen issues.  I'm curious as to how the time travel story will work within the parameters of this world.  I mean, it's not the craziest thing they could have thrown in considering all the monsters and mischief the Scooby Gang has encountered over the years.

Angel: Season 11 #1 debuts on January 18th, 2017, the day before Buffy's birthday.
