Resident Evil Village announced for 2021

Studio: Capcom
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC.
Release date: 2021

Yesterday was PlayStation’s "The Future of Gaming" event, and it was exciting for a number of reasons, including our first look at the new, bold design for the PlayStation 5. For fans of Capcom’s beloved Resident Evil series, however, there was one reveal that no doubt infected their every thought… Resident Evil Village.

In RE Village, which will follow in the footsteps of Resident Evil 7’s first-person viewpoint, we will once again take control of Ethan Winters, who previously went in search of his girlfriend, Mia, in the nightmarish swamps of the Baker family. To escape the horrors of the past, the couple have started a new life in a new location and have been living there for a few years.

We don’t know exactly where they are, but the gothic settings seen in the reveal and the eagle-eyed fans who noticed Romanian currency in a following screenshot may suggest an Eastern Europe location. There are also plenty of interesting new characters who make an appearance in this trailer, along with a werewolf-like creature that's already proving quite divisive for the fanbase… Do you have room in your heart for parasitic werewolves, should they exist in RE Village?

Another big reveal was the return of Chris Redfield, fan favourite and a key player in the narrative of Resident Evil since the first game. Ethan might not be so glad to see him, though, as you’ll understand after watching the trailer. Poor Mia.

Capcom have stated that, “with a greater focus on combat and exploration compared to Resident Evil 7, the village itself is just as important a character as any other, a location with a life of its own that will frequently keep you on edge as you discover its secrets." I, for one, can’t wait to see it for myself.

That’s all we know for now, with exciting pumping through our horror-loving veins, we’ll be sharing information as it comes, right here on HorrorDNA.
