It's hard to pull off a surprise in comics when orders have to be placed two months in advance. That's not stopping Scout Comics and its horror imprint, Black Caravan. It's announced Swamp Dogs, a new book written by J.M. Brandt and Theo Prasidis, illustrated by Kewber Baal, colored by Ruth Redmond, and lettered by Steve Wands. It will feature covers by Robert Sammelin. That's about all we know about it right now. A mystery campaign will be launched soon leading up to the release of an ascan comic in July.

“We have never attempted a mystery campaign before, but it just felt right with this book!” said Rich Woodall, Co-Publisher of Black Caravan.“We are really pumped to bring this book to the people. We fell in love with the pitch… and it has so much opportunity to grow and shift in different configurations.”

Black Caravan will distribute bookmarks features teasers leading up to July. They'll be included in all subscription boxes for Scout Comics and Black Caravan and distributed to comic shops around the country. July will also see the revelation of the synopsis and the cover for the first issue.

Swamp Dogs will begin as a 5-issue mini-series and tentatively continue in phases that will include multiple ongoing series, future mini-series, and stand-alone issues.

“The book is everything we wanted to represent when we started Black Caravan,” said Joseph Schmalke, Co-Publisher of Black Caravan and CCO of toy division Tracker Collectibles, “And the book is just screaming out for some cool figures. We have some great plans for the merchandising on Swamp Dogs. Really, this book has the chance to be the marquee title for our 2021, and something of a game-changer for us as we continue to grow.”

This sounds like a pretty big deal for a book we know next to nothing about. I have to say, I'm intrigued. We'll keep our eyes peeled for more information about Swamp Dogs in the near future.
