Solve a crime thriller with friends in Hidden Agenda

Studio: Supermassive Games
Platforms: PlayStation 4
Release: Available now (US), 22 November 2017 (Europe)

Every now and then an exciting horror game sneaks up behind me without me ever seeing it was coming. It's rare (although it happens more than I'd like in my time-poor adult life), but it happens. When it does happen, the hype is real, made even stronger by the fact that I don't have to wait all that long for it to be reality. This is where I'm at right now with Hidden Agenda, Supermassive Games' upcoming interactive crime thriller created exclusively for PlayStation 4.

Even if Hidden Agenda weren't being developed by Supermassive Games, the team behind Until Dawn, which still remains one of my favourite recent horror games, I'd still be hooked by the game's premise. Similar to Until Dawn, which saw players experience and influence a teen slasher with their own personal decisions, Hidden Agenda has a group of up to six players working together (and sometimes against each other) to capture a serial killer known as The Trapper. They're called this because their favourite thing to do is murder someone and booby-trap the corpse for whomever stumbles across it first. But wait... there's so much more.

Not only do players make choices that will influence the way that Hidden Agenda plays out, but they do so using a PlayLink mobile app. Each player has their own second screen to get involved in the thrills playing out on the TV. If anyone reading this has played That's You! on PlayStation 4, you'll know just how fun this can be. However, players will be tasked with their own objectives and have to work towards these in their own way, branching the narrative in different directions based on the decisions made. Sometimes you'll be working towards a common goal, and other times, not so much...

Hidden Agenda is a game that focuses on choice and consequence, and you'll decide how to tackle scenarios as they unfold in the story playing out on-screen. Will you explore a scene cautiously or quickly? While interrogating a witness, will you be a good cop or a bad cop? These choices are yours, and along with a number of quick-time events, will determine the outcome of the entire narrative.

I honestly could not be more excited by what I know of Hidden Agenda, which is already available in the US and will be coming to Europe on 22 November. That gives me just enough time to bring a group of five friends together and decide which ones I may, or may not, stab in the back in my quest to capture The Trapper. Who will you be bringing along for the ride? Keep an eye out for a full review once the European release of Hidden Agenda is upon us... I think this is one game that I'll be trapped by.
