Document Of The Dead Amazon Us DvdSynapse Films has announced a 1500 Limited Copy Blu-ray of Document of the Dead, which includes a Blu-ray of the original documentary and a DVD of the all new The Definitive Document of the Dead.

From the press release:
Seminal horror filmmaker Roy Frumkes (The Substitute, Street Trash) created one of the more infamous documentaries when he worked directly with his longtime friend George Romero on Document of the Dead. Now, Roy's celebration of all things DAWN gets re-edited, updated, and remastered! The Definitive Document of the Dead is an all-new version of the classic 'making of' project based on 1978's Dawn of the Dead!

George A. Romero, director of the original Night of the Living Dead, is one of the horror genre's most celebrated directors. The original 1979 version of Document of the Dead was an intimate look at Romero's creative process, with an outstanding collection of interviews, effects demonstrations (courtesy of makeup artist Tom Savini), and behind-the-scenes footage from Romero's classic 1978 zombie film, Dawn of the Dead.

This newly re-edited and remastered 2012 version of the award-winning documentary contains all-new exclusive materials including additional interviews with with Romero's family and friends, candid on-set footage from Two Evil Eyes, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, Survival of the Dead, and many more surprises! The Definitive Document of the Dead is a loving portrait of a horror legend, and a must-have for any true horror fan!

And speaking of true horror fans, Synapse Films is making available an extremely limited 1500-copy-only Blu-ray of The Definitive Document of the Dead, available only from the Synapse Films website. This Blu-ray will not be sold in stores! The release includes a DVD of The Definitive Document of the Dead (along with the new Roy Frumkes commentary), as well as a Blu-ray of the ORIGINAL 66-minute 16mm 1979 version of Document of the Dead, created for educational use at New York's School of Visual Arts, remastered in high-definition. Also included in this limited-edition combo is a fold-out poster, created by artist Wes Benscoter, of the new George A. Romero painting used on the cover art.

DVD Special Features:

  • All-New Audio Commentary from Writer/Producer/Director, Roy Frumkes

1500-Copy Limited-Edition Blu-ray Special Features:

Dawn of the Dead, hands down, is my favorite horror film of all time. While I always change my mind on my favorites, that top spot never changes; it's always Dawn. So naturally, I'll be picking up a copy.

As the press release said, the only place you can order that Blu-ray special edition is from Synapse (and you'll want to do it sooner than later, considering the relatively low print run). If you are just looking for the DVD, you can hit the cover up there on the left.

He's the puppet master. You don't see him, but he pulls the strings that gets things done. He's the silent partner. He's black ops. If you notice his presence, it's the last thing you'll notice — because now you're dead. He's the shadow you thought you saw in that dark alleyway. You can have a conversation with him, and when you turn around to offer him a cup of coffee, he's already gone.
