THE LIFE AFTER CONTINUES IN EXODUS

We don't know what happens to us after we die, but if it's anything like The Life After, it will be pretty friggin' cool.  The series from writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and artist Gabo just wrapped up its first volume from Oni Press.  Fortunately, the publisher has announced that the series will be returning to continue the story of Jude, the other son of God, in November.

The new series, Exodus: The Life After picks up with Jude right back where he started: Purgatory.  He's got no memory of his previous adventures through the afterlife with Ernest Hemingway or his relationships.  His existence is stark and empty.  His friends, including the aforementioned Hemingway and a very tenacious preteen girl are lurking just outside his awareness, struggling to free him from his new prison.  After all, if they're going to overthrow God, the only person that actually stands a chance at doing so is his kid.

"All of my books are like my children, but, The Life After is something different,” says Fialkov.  “It's a playground for ideas and thoughts that gives me something that I don't necessarily get from my other series.  With Exodus: The Life After, Gabo and I are getting a chance to tell big epic stories with an intimacy that you can only do in comics, and, specifically, at Oni."

“Working on this book has been insanely amazing, mostly because Josh let's me do whatever the heck I want, within reason of course,” says Gabo. “Exodus ushers in a new era for us. Now that we've got the bass line set, Josh and I are gonna start laying down some of the funkiest comic notes ever witnessed. I hope ya'll brought yer dancing shoes, xoxo.”

The Life After was an incredible ride and a really interesting take on the afterlife.  The first volume ended in such a bittersweet moment that worked as an ending, but not necessarily the ending.  I'm glad to see that Fialkov and Gabo have more in store for Jude and his friends.

The first issue of Exodus: The Life After debuts on November 4th, 2015.  It will feature a variant cover by Francesco Francavilla.
