THE WALKING DEAD...NOW IN COLOR!

After releasing a new one-shot Negan Lives set in the Walking Dead universe, I had to wonder if we would be seeing more from the series from Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment. It turns out we'll soon get a chance to re-experience the entire zombie epic in October, this time in color. As announced during Skybound Xpo, The Walking Dead will be re-released as The Walking Dead Deluxe. Writer Robert Kirkman and artist Charlie Adlard will be joined by colorist Dave McCaig.

The series will feature a number of variant covers including work from David Finch, Tony Moore, Julian Totino Tedesco, and Arthur Adams, commemorating major character introductions and the biggest moments from the story. Each issue will feature an installment called “The Cutting Room Floor,” featuring Kirkman's original handwritten plots accompanied by commentary on abandoned storylines and plot points that may have changed along the way.

There are no plans to collect this in trade paperbacks any time soon so this is the only place to experience this new colored edition. Two issues will be released every month with the first one coming out on October 7th, 2020.

While I'm intrigued by this, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I like McCaig's color work, but there was something about The Walking Dead's look that really worked in the black-and-white palette. The colors alone wouldn't be enough for me to check this out, but the “Cutting Room Floor” stuff is super interesting.
