VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT UNVEILS NEW TITLES VIA PERISCOPE

Valiant Entertainment is certainly making its 25th anniversary a memorable year.  There are already convention appearances scheduled for the next few months that include panels like the recent one at Special Edition NYC.  The publisher's latest summer event, Book of Death is about to kick off that promises to change everything about the shared universe forever.  Yesterday, the folks at Valiant added a few more announcements to the pile and they did it in a really cool way.  Sure, they could have just sent out a few press releases or given some interviews, but that's old school.  Instead, Valiant CEO & Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani, Editor-in-CHief Warren Simons, and Director of Marketing, Communications & Digital Media Hunter Gorinson gave a live presentation via Periscope at the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco.

The discussion started with the current status quo of the Valiant Universe, including highlights from titles such as X-O Manowar, Harbinger, Doctor Mirage, the recent event The Valiant, and the sci-fi powerhouse Divinity (with a sixth printing coming for its first issue).  Many of these are included in a new One Dollar Debut program that will be rolling out over the winter, providing fans a chance to check out a new printing of the first issue for only a buck.  Eight total books are planned and they include titles old and new so they'll provide a nice primer for anyone interested in checking out Valiant in general.  The first batch (The Valiant and X-O Manowar) is set for release in November, with two titles each month through February.

Next on the agenda was Book of Death, the summer event set to begin in just a few weeks.  The publisher announced that is is now its highest selling debut of all time with more than 70,000 copies sold.  This puts it on track to make it one of the top-selling independent comics of the year.  Part of this may be due to the special Legends of the Geomancer tie-in that can only be purchased by pre-ordering the main series.  That doesn't make it any less impressive though.  You can check out a trailer for the book above.

The Eternal Warrior will be getting an ongoing series beginning in November entitled Wrath of the Eternal Warrior.  Written by Robert Venditti and illustrated by Raul Allen, spins out of Book of Death with the title character torn from the world he once protected and stranded in a hostile alien landscape.  On the plus side, the guy is immortal, so hopefully he'll be OK, right?  Wrath of the Eternal Warrior also marks the first full-length Valiant series for Raul Allen who has joined the publisher as an exclusive artist for this launch.

Dr. Mirage is set to return in a new mini-series as a follow up to the 2014 book.  This one is called The Death-Defying Dr. Mirage: Second Lives.  The four-issue mini-series begins in December and is written by Jen Van Meter and illustrated by Roberto de la Torre.  It will follow Shan and Hwen Mirage, a couple with some unusual qualities.  She can speak to the dead and he's an intangible spirit, but at least they're both in the land of the living now.  You can imagine the torture Hwen must feel in that he cannot affect anything in his current state.  He can't even touch his own wife.  The couple risks everything in an effort to restore Hwen to a solid form.  The only problem is that just might be releasing a pure, homicidal evil that wants to murder everything in its sights.  No biggie.

Finally, we've got a teaser for the upcoming X-O Manowar #50.  This isn't coming until 2016 and the character is already busy as he just got married in this week's issue.  No much is shown in the image, drawn by Mico Suayan, but if it's anything like the other Valiant titles and events, it's sure to be something big.
