Review:

GWAR has been bouncing through time in a penis-shaped space rocket, affecting all kinds of important moments in history, like a demented Peabody & Sherman. Now they're taking the fight to Mr. Perfect, the jerk that sent them hurtling through time in the first place. They're armed to the teeth and they even have a robot and dinosaur alongside them. The battle takes them on one last journey through time and it's a doozy.

If there was any era that you wished GWAR: Orgasmageddon went to throughout the series, it's probably covered in this impressive segment. Artists Tom Neely and Matt Maguire pull out all the stops for several double-page spreads showing GWAR jumping through time. We've got sleazy New York, the Wild West, Roman gladiators, the crucifixion, the moon landing, Woodstock, Star Wars and more. They even find time to literally piss on Donald Trump and they didn't even have to go to Russia to do it.

Throughout it all, Neely and Maguire are switching off, sometimes on the same character as they bounce from one time period to the next. It's a very impressive collaborative effort. It's also filled with pop culture references. I've been staring at it for a while now and I don't think I've caught everything yet. All the while, GWAR is fighting giant alien bugs and splattering blood all over the place. It's amazing. If anyone was even remotely curious as to what this book is about, they'd look no further than these pages. If they got turned off by them, then you should probably not hang out with them.

This romp is filled with gags too. Writers Matt Miner and Matt Maguire pack every page with tons of jokes and dark humor. It works hand-in-hand with the incredible artwork. It's a comic that doesn't take itself too seriously in an industry filled with grim and gritty super heroes. It's refreshing to see a comic that sets out to have fun and blow shit up.

As mentioned in previous reviews, I'm not very familiar with GWAR's music. This comic definitely makes me want to actively pursue it further. In the end, it serves as a lead up to the group's newly released album. This gives me a new incentive to check it out, however it left me hanging a little in the story department. It has an ending that's certainly fitting for GWAR, but things are left wide open to do much more.

GWAR: Orgasmageddon is an absolute blast. It's a pun-filled, blood-soaked journey through time that puts all other time travelers to shame. H.G. Wells is regretting that he didn't have his characters fly around in a penis-shaped ship in The Time Machine. It would have made that Guy Pearce movie was more interesting. At the end of the day, this is a damn fun comic that is enjoyable to anyone with a dark sense of humor, whether you're a GWAR fan or not.
